WHO LAUNCHES GLOBAL REPORT ON TRADITIONAL AND COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE
Dear friends and colleagues,
This month the World Health Organization has issued its Global Report on Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) 2019. This report reviews global progress in T&CM over the past two decades and is based on contributions from 179 countries. It provides valuable information for policymakers, health professionals and the public on the potential contribution of T&CM to health and well-being.
The WHO report states that homeopathy is used in 100 countries in the world and gives information on specific countries across the five continents. The full report is accessible from: https://www.who.int/traditional-complementary-integrative-medicine/WhoGlobalReportOnTraditionalAndComplementaryMedicine2019.pdf?ua=1
The report also underlines that T&CM is an important and often underestimated health resource with many applications, especially in the prevention and management of lifestyle-related chronic diseases, and in meeting the health needs of ageing populations. Therefore, the report concludes that T&CM can make a significant contribution to the goal of universal health coverage by being included in the provision of essential health services.
Hopefully policymakers will read the report and will realize the huge potential of homeopathy and other complementary medicines to improve the health of their citizens.
